Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi acted together in the Bollywood comedy-drama Selfiee movie. It’s a remake of the 2019 critical and marketable success Malayalam movie Driving License. Selfiee movie directed by Raj Mehta and produced by Dharma Productions, Prithviraj Productions, Magic Frames, and Cape of Good flicks. It was written by Rishab Sharma, the specialized platoon includes, Rajeev Ravi who’s a photographer, Ritesh Soni handled the editing, and the music was scored by Tanishk Bagchi, Dj Chetas- Lijo George. Movie Story

Selfiee revolves around superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) and one of his most ardent fans, Om Prakash Aggarwal (Emraan Hashmi). A film shoot brings Vijay to Bhopal and then to the RTO, as he needs a new driving license for the climax shot for his movie. Situations turn ugly as a publicity hungry local politician close to Superstar Vijay tries to take advantage of the situation.

In the era of social media, misunderstanding between an RTO Inspector and superstar goes out of proportion. Vijay and Om are supported by spouses played by Diana and Nusrat. Om’s son is also a big fan of Superstar but considers his father as a real-life hero. While the intent of superstar and RTO Inspector are shown pure for each other, circumstances create a rift between them and media/news channels, making it appear wide open. Nationwide debates on TV shows, favoring and opposing superstar, and RTO Inspector keep on adding fuel to fire.

This an intriguing premise offering an occasion to talk about the ephemerality of fame, and its meaning of it in the time of social media. The nature of genuine stardom, the manipulation of media, the risks of petty self-esteem. And whether Big bad Bollywood is really all that big or all that bad explored, but not really allowed to overshadow its larger- than- life idol Akshay Kumar himself.

Movie Review

Akshay Kumar has justified his role as a superstar. Imran Hashmi appeared to be honest in his performance. Nushrrat Bharucha and Diana also acted well. Raj Mehta, the director has put his best after two successful films Good Newwz and Jugjugg Jeeyo. Story, screenplay also catchy. Overall an excellent masala film. Kudos to Dharma & other producers. The movie jumped in to story from beginning itself and kept us engaged with the story throughout the entire 2hrs. No useless dramas, no unnecessary and boring romantic scenes, no annoying comedies.

With Selfiee, things look more real and relatable because of the story and narrative which is not too far-fetched and is pretty convincing. Selfiee doesn’t end at being a feud between a star and an RTO officer, but also covers their emotional side of being a husband, a father and balancing it all with their respective jobs. The screenplay is engaging and doesn’t let you have too many dull moments. The original story by Sachy has been written for the Hindi version by Rishabh Sharma and he tweaks it a bit to suit the Hindi audience’s palette.

While the main leads shine, Abhimanyu Singh as a fading superstar Suraj and Meghna Malik as the starstruck corporator, Kamla Tiwari, are more than impressive. Abhimanyu is hilarious as Vijay’s erstwhile roomie and someone now stuck spewing cringe-worthy lines for shady films and ads. After a couple of instances, though, his parts seem forced. Social media influencer Kusha Kapila, in a cameo as a tarot card reader, does a good job.

In short, getting a driving license is a test of skill, but for Prithviraj Sukumaran, its become a bitter pill, the inspector tries to grill, their pride gives them no time to chill, add to that, the fan frenzy overkill, the humor and the twists are there to thrill yet Selfie fails to fit the bill, instead watch the original to get your fill.
